The video talks about editorial design and the many aspects of it. For example it talks about the importance of grids in order to give the piece structure. He compares it to the way buildings are structured. This ensures consistency when it comes to things like images and hierarchy and makes it look more organized rather than just a mess. This will help viewers better understand what the editorial design is about rather than overloading their brains. He also talks about how you'd want the longest amount of engagement with editorial design through pauses or images that help them rest. Grids can be used in all sorts of ways but they have to be able to be understood by the viewer and not just randomly places information. Sometimes certain aspects like images relate to the information on the other page or previous pages. 

Editorial Design #2

Design 1 (Charm, Belligerence & Perversity by GBH): What the design means to me is that it is a very simplistic way and formatted in a specific way in order portray a message a certain way. The monkeys on the front cover invoke a sense of curiosity while the images on the inside make you stop to look at the images before continuing to read. The type is also concise with not too much information and a lot of empty space below the text. It also uses parts of the bottom of the page in order to define words and do other things. 

Design 2 (This Is Me, Full Stop by Here Design): What the design means to me is that it is a very abstract and simplistic way to portray a message. The design is very simplistic which makes it look cool and utilizes some of the things we learned with interrelationship of form. I also like the hierarchy used as one part is just an image whilst the other part is a line or two of text that is centered on the page while being aligned to the left. 

Design 3 (Mr B & Friends ‘Comfriendium’ 10 Year book): What the design means to me is that it is a very complex yet attention grabbing design. The gold creates a kind of emphasis and the division of certain pages creates a clear way to follow the information. The complex part of the web and circles is guided as the circles on the left go towards the right where the rest are which I find pretty cool. 

Can't think of many websites that I use that have a design I like right now but one that comes to mind is Obsidian. This is a note taking app that I use for game ideas and it has a really simplistic design with the menus following a distinct hierarchy towards the edge of the app/website. The issue that then arises is that since it's a note taking app it doesn't have information on it but with the notes you write you can make the heirarcy a certain way or structure it a certain way. For example you can make it look like notes or like a news paper and you can see the difference in hierarchy depending on the person who uses it which I really like.

  Why The Final Works      Out of all of these designs, I feel like the 5th design which is at the bottom left is my favorite. This is because it is one of the only ones where I feel like the line around the Tor actually connects well and I also like how the color gradient worked and the deep blue to light purple I like a lot. I feel like it works the best as the final because it looks both clean and professional which is what I was going for with the Tor design and the tighter spacing works better with the font and doesn't affect the way you interpret the design. I think it also stands out the most compared to the other designs with my eyes gravitating towards that last design in specific rather than the other designs. I din't spend the most time on the design but it looks like there was a lot of effort made to make the design like that in which did happen when making the design. Five Digital Logo Comps Reflection

 5 Digi Roughs 1 2 3 4 5 Reflection I was pretty happy with the way my digi roughs had come out. I decided to do one design that I liked for each one of the names. I had a couple issues while making these designs though, firstly I couldn't find the right font for Eric so I found a different one but used the same design. Secondly, for Eric Torres I wrote it in my normal hand writing so I had to choose a font that I'd like to represent the design. Thirdly, the line I made on Tor I wasn't really happy about but I am not all that bothered by it since its a rough. I like the designs though as I found a nice font for Eric and both the ET and Torres came out well and the way I liked. I feel like I could still improve on these designs more as I move from roughs to finals. I also had to understand how to use the direct selection tool and create outline in order to make both ET and Torres look more connected and nice rather than it looking like it was sloppily attached the E and T.
