Communication Design

Communication Design is the creation of visuals that spread
messages and meanings in new and relevant ways. It aims to make an impression on the view through the message that the design is trying to convey.

Formats & Channels of Communication Design

In communication design there are multiple channels that include;
Graphic Design which involves the creation of graphics for marketing materials, advertising campaigns, and websites and choosing symbols, images, words, fonts, and layouts in order to accurately convey a message.
Advertising which involves promoting products or messages through print, digital, or video ads in order to communicate to an audience.
Visual Identity which refers to fine arts and applied arts often containing symbols, logos, shapes, and other visual elements to make it easy to recognize an image. Brand logos are good example of visual identity.
Data Visualization which is communication that is not through words and is instead through charts, graphs, maps and are often used to analyze information.
Writing and Editing which is written information found in novels, books, journals, literature work, informational documents, blogs, etc.
Interaction Design which is portraying information through intractable apps like messaging, calling, and conference apps.
Art and Illustration which is through pictures and art such as photographs, illustrations, graphics, pictograms, animation, and films.
Marketing Communication which is often part of graphics for marketing materials, advertising campaigns, and websites.

Editorial Design fits into graphic design and writing and editing. This is because editorial design is often through magazines, books, newspapers. In graphic design it involves the process of creating the layout as well as the logos and overall design of these pieces fall under the work that graphic designers do. Things such as indesign and knowing how to use grids is needed for these pieces and graphic designers have knowledge of how to do this allowing for them to create the base of these pieces. As for writing and editing that also goes into this. It spreads messages through written works with things like newspapers and magazines falling into this. They are needed in order to portray the written information on the piece. As for the editors it could potentially be to see if the design works properlly and inline with the written work. They also work on fixing mistakes in the written work allowing them into that editorial design process.
